I will admit, without shame, that Dorian Yates is my favorite bodybuilder. Dorian won the Mr. Olympia six consecutive years (1992-1997) before a string of devastating injuries forced him to retire from the sport. Before the 1997 Mr. Olympia contest, Dorian tore his bicep and tricep and announced his retirement almost immediately after winning the contest. He was noted for his Viking Berserker workout intensity and his quiet demeanor. Unlike 99% of the men in the pro ranks, he was not in it for the money or attention, he simply came, saw and conquered and immediately went home to England.
Dorian was the first pro to push the limits of growth hormone use. His predecessor, Lee Haney, looked normal by comparison. Yates revolutionized the sport, he was 20-30 lbs larger than Haney on stage and significantly harder. Without question, Yates was on another level in terms of drug use which is, of course, to be applauded. Dorian was the first "inhuman" looking bodybuilder. His back, hamstrings and calves were without peer. Proportionately his arms were smaller than many of the champions before or after him. His trademarks were insane hardness and his pose from the back. His top weight on stage was around 270 which is a bit smaller than Coleman but I will maintain that Yates at his peak was superior to Coleman at his peak. That is obviously biased but I'm Arthur so my opinion counts for twenty of yours.
